Quad bikes storage tips in winters

By Keren Simons

The winter is coming soon, the weather changes abnormally. The temperature in winter is low, which has great impact on the engine start. If no effective measures have been taken, the engine can easily wear out. As an ATV amateur, I’d like to remind you quad bike drivers to take some actions on your bikes maintenance. Below I have listed 8 tips and hope they can help you.

1. Change the fuel and lubricating oil that suitable for winter use.

2. Do place your quad bikes inside if condition allows. The purpose is to ensure proper machine temperature and make an easier start.

3. As for the electric-start quad bikes, you should increase the concentration of the batteries’ electrolyte. And also pay more attention to the supplementary charge insulation. If the first electric start fails, do remember to re-start it after 10 to 15 seconds. Moreover, the start time should not last for more than 5 seconds.

4. Do not make a big throttle on startup. It can accelerate the wear out of the engines after circles of idling operation.

5. Fuel up the tank immediately when you stop. It aims to drive the wet air away. Otherwise, the wet air can easily freeze into ice, which can easily etch the tank and block the fuel path. Clean the sediment out of the tank regularly.

6. Install heating devices, which can warm the engine.

7. Warm up the engine by using hot water before you start.

8. Make foot launch rod dozens of times before the start, if your quad bike hasn’t been used for a long time. The situation that the lubricant oil can not flow to the surface can accelerate wear out.
